Last year, in Russia, used cars were sold totaling 6.95 trillion rubles, calculated at Avtostat and Gazprom Autolizing. This is 19 percent more than in 2023, when the amount amounted to 5.84 trillion. The reasons are both the increase in the cost of the cars themselves and an increase in the volume of the secondary market.

The least money was spent on “fresh” cars under the age of five – two trillion rubles. This is 28.7 percent of all money and 5.7 percent more than in 2023.

A 31.5 percent share (2.19 trillion and +21.9 percent) of costs fell on cars aged five to nine years. Most of all, the Russians laid out for “old” cars manufactured 10 or more years ago. Their share amounted to 39.9 percent, or 2.76 trillion rubles, jumping only 28.2 percent per year.

As for the manufacturing countries, Chinese cars are increasingly pouring into the “secondary”. In 2024, 273 billion rubles took for used “Chinese” – 2.3 times more than a year earlier. 622.5 billion (+41.3 percent) were spent on Russian cars, 1.04 trillion (+23.4 percent) for Korean.

However, European and Japanese vehicles are still leading in the costs of the secondary market, which cost customers 2.46 and 2.17 trillion rubles, respectively.
