The expenses of Russians to buy new cars set a new record

In April, they took 325.7 billion rubles, the Gazprombank Autolizing and the Avtostat agency said in a joint study. This is almost a third (31.3 percent) more than in March, when the amount of expenses amounted to 248 billion. At the same time, in April 2024, 24.4 percent more were spent – 430.6 billion rubles.

In general, over the past four months of 2025, the Russians bought new cars worth more than one trillion rubles. Last year, this figure was 28.8 percent more.

The most significant growth was shown to expenses on the “Koreans”: in the second spring month they amounted to 5.5 billion rubles, which is 79.6 percent more than in March. European cars cost Russians 46.8 billion rubles (plus 46.5 percent), Japanese – 17.6 billion (plus 39.2 percent), American – 3.8 billion (plus 21.7 percent).

Most of all the money was expected to go to the “Chinese” – 188.4 billion (plus 29.9 percent) or almost 60 percent of the total. The expenses on the domestic auto industry are significantly lagging behind – 53 billion (plus 16.5 percent by March).

As for the volume of implementation, Chinese cars are also leading here. In April, the Russians purchased 56 thousand machines of brands from the PRC. They follow Russian with a result of 33.9 thousand pieces. Cars from other countries did not overcome the marks of five thousand copies.

Meanwhile, the country’s fleet is aging. According to the calculations of Avtostat, the age of seven out of 10 cars in Russia exceeded 10 years. As a result, expenses for repairs are growing, which is confirmed in services: in four months of 2025, large checks became 12 percent more compared to the same period of 2024.
