The first Jeland car body was welded at the former GM plant in St. Petersburg

The enterprise in the Shushary industrial zone now belongs to the Russian holding company AGR. Welding the first Jeland body was the first stage of the restart at the full-cycle production plant. The welding shop at the plant, which previously produced Chevrolet and Opel, and then was mothballed for many years, was actually created anew, AGR assures.

Installation of the main equipment took about two months, about 600 containers with equipment and machines were delivered to the site, and 120 industrial robots were integrated into the line. It took less than a month to set them up.

Technically, the process is built according to modern patterns: robotic spot welding is carried out here, as well as seam welding in an inert gas environment. Five types of sealants are applied automatically to the joints of body parts. A machine vision system uses cameras to monitor the trajectory of application of the compounds and compares it with the standard, and the geometry of the finished body is checked on a high-precision control and measuring machine.

The welding line at the AGR plant in Shushary is designed to produce four body models with different modifications – for a standard or panoramic roof, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, up to 12 options in total. The assembly of the body proceeds in stages: large components are welded from parts, then the body is formed, the doors, hood and trunk lid are hung. After all control operations, the bodies are sent to the painting shop.

The new project at AGR is called a demonstration of a new model for industry development – the creation of modern infrastructure based on international technology partnerships and localization of key competencies. Exactly when the first commercial Jeland vehicles will reach dealers has not yet been announced.

Earlier it became known which cars in Russia will be produced under the Jeland brand.
