The GAC business sedan in a sporty style will officially appear in Russia

The “Chinese Cars” portal got acquainted with the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) certificate for the Empow model. We are talking about a 4.7-meter sedan, which can be considered a competitor to the Changan Uni-V and Chery Arrizo 8. The new GAC product is based on the modular GPMA platform, familiar from the current GS8 crossover; in China, the model is available with three types of power plants.

The approval documents list the GAC Empow as being made in China, but there are no details about the engineering or design. But in China the sedan has both hybrid versions and “charged” versions. However, the initial version with a 1.5 petrol turbo engine (177 horsepower, 270 Nm) and a 7-speed “robot” will most likely be brought to Russia.

Although the GAC Empow debuted four years ago, the interior is modern: even in the “mid-range” trim levels there are a pair of 10.25-inch screens, an eight-speaker audio system, an ambient suspension with 32 colors, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive headlights, active cruise control, all-round visibility and much more. A richly equipped sedan with a 1.5-liter engine costs 108-128 thousand yuan (14.8-17.5 thousand dollars).

At the moment, unofficial GAC Empow in Russia costs from 2.7 to 2.9 million rubles, but taking into account the weakening of the ruble and the increase in recycling collection, “white” supplies are unlikely to be cheaper for the end buyer. More details about the model will appear in the spring.
