The Skoda Yeti, which until recently was considered one of the most interesting subcompact crossovers on the secondary market, actually has a number of serious shortcomings that are important to know about before purchasing, reports Za Rulem.
The attractive price of all-wheel drive versions aged 8-10 years (from 1.2 to 1.5 million rubles) is not explained by the generosity of sellers, but by problematic technical components.
Since 2015, when diesel modifications disappeared from the range, the Yeti version with a 4×4 system was offered only in tandem with the 1.8 turbo engine (152 hp), which had earned a reputation for being extremely capricious, said Sergei Zinoviev, an expert at Za Rulem magazine.
The engine is equipped with direct injection and is equipped with an unsuccessful piston group, which leads to increased oil consumption. In addition, owners complain about a weak timing chain, which may require replacement ahead of schedule.
This engine is paired with a DQ250 robotic gearbox with two wet clutches. Although in theory it can withstand 300 thousand kilometers, in practice no one can guarantee how many repairs will be required and how much they will cost.
In addition to the mechanical problems, there are also body problems: the Yeti’s corrosion protection is mediocre. By 8-10 years of operation, wheel arches, doors and some other body elements are handed over.
Also, many minor faults are related to the electrical part. Thus, the low price on the secondary market is not a gift, but a reflection of the risks associated with purchasing this “European” with mileage.
