The Mazda brand entered the TOP 10 sales in the Russian Federation thanks to the CX-5 with a 155 hp engine.

According to the analytical agency Autostat, according to the results of the third week of 2026, the brand took ninth place, and in the fourth week it rose to sixth, overtaking many competitors.

According to Alexander Kovalev, founder of the Mechanics press service, many importers are now actively offering customers cars with power up to 160 hp. In this class, the Mazda CX-5 has a clear advantage due to its 2-liter naturally aspirated engine and automatic transmission. While most other cars that fall under the preferential recycling fee use small-displacement turbocharged engines.

“The main reason for the growing popularity of the Mazda CX-5 in Russia was the engine power of 155 hp. This crossover is subject to preferential recycling fee rules. So, for a new car you will have to pay only 3,400 rubles, and for a car older than 3 years – 5,200 rubles. It’s worth noting here that the CX-5 itself is quite inexpensive, if we are talking about a Chinese-assembled model of a joint venture between Changan and Mazda,” said Alexander Kovalev.

According to the expert, in the current economic realities, the CX-5 looks like a promising model capable of maintaining popularity. However, it is too early to talk about full-fledged competition with Toyota, since only one model is popular with Mazda, while Toyota has several.
