The new Kia technology will allow blind passengers to “hear” speed

The South Korean automaker introduced the Kia Soundscapes system – it is based on artificial intelligence and aimed at providing passengers with visual impairments with the opportunity to hear what the rest can see. This is a set of sounds folding in the soundtrack, each element of which corresponds to the object outside the window – whether it is trees, fields or mountains. And the pace and tone of the musical composition change depending on the speed of the car.

The landscape overboard is read by numerous car sensors, after which a special AI interface turns it into music. For example, wind instruments are used for trees and bushes, and deep, resonating notes denote mountains. In addition, the pace and tone of the composition change depending on speed.

The Kia Soundscapes system has already been tested. A pair was attracted to the experiment with visual impairments, which was rolled on the EV9 electric crossover, and during the trip the soundtrack generated by artificial intelligence sounded in real time. However, despite the fact that the experience has been recognized as successful, Kia does not yet intend to massively introduce innovative technology. “This is an artistic experiment, not a commercial function,” the company said.
