Porsche sold just 16,339 electric Taycans last year, the model’s worst performance since its introduction and nearly half the peak of 41,296 sold in 2021. However, the company does not intend to give up: the updated 2027 Taycan should strengthen the position of the electric car in the fight against the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door. Carscoops reports this.
The main innovation of the updated Taycan is the E‑Shift system, and it is this that the driver will feel first. The name says it all: virtual gear shifting in a car that doesn’t have any. This idea was first used on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and then it migrated to the new Mercedes and even the Ferrari Luce.
The base Taycan, 2027 Taycan 4 and Taycan 4S get a larger 105 kWh Porsche Performance Battery Plus as standard. It supports DC fast charging up to 320 kW and features a new battery status indicator. US-market models, with the exception of the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package, also feature a NACS charging port on the right fender, while the left fender retains the J1772 AC connector. A CCS adapter is included in the package.
