The Russian car market has become the fourth in Europe

In 2024, the Russian automobile market took fourth position in the European ranking in terms of sales volume, selling 1.57 million new passenger cars. This result indicates a significant increase in sales – by 48.4 percent compared to the previous year, according to the analytical agency Autostat. The leading positions in the European ranking are still occupied by Germany (2.8 million cars), Great Britain (1.9 million cars) and France (1.7 million cars).

The sales leaders in Europe were Germany, Great Britain and France. In Germany, 2.8 million vehicles were sold, despite a slight decrease of 1 percent. The UK posted a 2.6 percent increase with 1.9 million vehicles sold, while France saw a 3.2 percent decline to 1.7 million vehicles. Italy is in fifth position with 1.55 million vehicles, but sales there decreased slightly, by only 0.05 percent.

Previously, experts predicted a significant drop in the Russian car market. According to forecasts by the Association of European Businesses, by the end of 2025, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia will decrease by 15 percent and amount to 1.4 million units.
