The World Cup could return to the United States for the first time since the 1980s

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has officially confirmed plans to return the World Rally Championship (WRC) to the United States. To do this, an inspection delegation will travel to North America in June.

If the trip is successful, the American round could be included in the WRC calendar as early as 2027. This will be the championship’s first race in the United States since 1988. Delegates will explore the infrastructure in Kentucky and Tennessee, where there are suitable, sparsely populated dirt roads, and also meet with the local rally community.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem called the United States the most important opportunity for the development of the WRC. According to one version, interest in this market was fueled by the growing popularity of Formula 1 in America.

Previously, a Volkswagen model that no one had seen in Russia was put up for sale.
