According to Autostat, the volume of the secondary market at the end of 2024 amounted to 6.04 million cars, which is the best result in the last 10 years and six percent higher than in 2023. A quarter of second-hand sales in the past year were made by Lada models, Toyota is in second place with a share of 10.26 percent, and Kia closes the top three with a share of 5.79 percent.

Autostat notes that in 2014, the Russian secondary market set a record – 6.1 million cars – and since then it has never reached the mark of six million units. And finally, in 2024, the six million mark was surpassed.

Over the past year, Russians bought almost one and a half million used Lada cars, more than 619 thousand Toyotas and 349.5 thousand Kia. Hyundai is in fourth place in terms of sales volumes (332.1 thousand cars), and Nissan is in fifth place (282.6 thousand units). Of the listed brands, only Lada is officially present in Russia; the rest closed their business in the country more than two years ago.

The most popular model among used cars in 2024 was the Lada 2107 sedan, which sold 139.1 thousand units. The second place in the rating was taken by Kia Rio with a result of 124.7 thousand units, and the third place was taken by the Lada 2114 Samara-2 hatchback (122.7 thousand units). The top 5 included Hyundai Solaris (120.2 thousand units) and Ford Focus (110.4 thousand units).

In the last month of 2024, 522.9 thousand passenger cars were sold on the secondary market. This is 0.3 percent less than in November, but 24.6 percent more than a year ago, in December 2023.
