The list includes both cult classic models and modern touring motorcycles.
The list opens with the 1970 Honda CB750, a motorcycle that is often called the most important motorcycle in history. With basic maintenance, it easily covers 160 thousand kilometers. Next up is the 1975 Gold Wing GL1000 with a 1000cc flat-four engine. cm, which has proven itself to be an ideal bike for touring. The 1985 Gold Wing GL1200 was the first in the brand’s lineup to receive a full fairing straight from the factory, Topspeed reports.
The 1998 CBR1100XX, known as the “Blackbird”, a former world speed record holder, has been described as “virtually timeless” and is now often used as a budget sports tourer. With an early version of the proven flat-six engine, the 2001 Gold Wing GL1800 offers comfortable seating, good wind protection and a smooth ride.
The 2008 VFR800 Interceptor with its V-four engine has evolved from a sportbike into one of the best and longest-lasting touring machines around. Although not a big name, the 2012 VFR1200F is an incredible value for those looking for a very fast and reliable 170bhp bike.
The 2014 Valkyrie is essentially a Gold Wing, minus the body kit, but significantly lighter and with the same reliable V6. The modern 2017 Africa Twin has a Unicam 1100 engine with good torque, and the first generation features fewer electronics, which increases the reliability of the bike.
Rounding out the list is the 2018 CB500X, a rare example of a small-displacement engine (47 hp) designed to last more than 160 thousand kilometers. The publication’s authors note that owning a Honda is often equated to buying peace of mind.
