Vitaly Aleksandrovich Petrov is a Russian racing driver, known by the nickname “Vyborg Rocket”. He is the first Russian driver to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship and the first Russian driver to finish on the podium at the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
“When I already came to Formula 1 after several seasons in GP2, I bought myself a game console, a steering wheel with pedals and trained at home,” Petrov told Auto Mail.
It was important for the pilot to learn the configuration of the tracks where the Australian Grand Prix, the Chinese Grand Prix were planned, as well as other circuits where the driver had never been before.
At the same time, Petrov clarifies that teams now have advanced simulators that allow them to “feel” any circuit in the world as realistically as possible.
“Given the level of modern simulators, we can safely say that this is not only e-sports, but also a bridge to real racing,” the eminent motorsports athlete is confident.
