Electric vehicle maker BYD said a fire broke out in a multi-level car park in a Shenzhen industrial park on Tuesday morning. The parking lot was used as a parking lot for “test and decommissioned vehicles.” Through the efforts of the services, the fire was extinguished.

A large fire filled the sky with thick black smoke, eyewitnesses reported. At the same time, the flames engulfed a long section of the multi-story building.

It is important that electric cars burn differently than fuel cars, since there are still no effective ways to extinguish burning lithium batteries.

The fire comes as BYD tries to stabilize its performance after a difficult start to the year. Although March sales in China showed a strong rebound, the overall decline was recorded for the seventh month in a row.

Earlier it became known that BYD is considering the possibility of purchasing a large car manufacturer. BYD executive vice president Li Ke said the Chinese auto giant is open to acquiring a major automaker, although negotiations have not yet reached the point.

She stressed that competitors from the US, Europe and Japan face structural challenges: they have to maintain a parallel portfolio of fuel and electric models.
