The Russian branch of the company found out details about the UNI-S crossover (CS55 Plus), which was photographed with broken backs of the front seats. The automaker shared a video of the high-profile accident and pictures after the accident. The Chinese office of Changan conducted two rounds of seat testing according to the E-NCAP standard: seats with a dummy were tested with a rear impact at a speed of 25 km/h.

Changan published the full photo and video report in an open letter. It turned out that the sensational accident occurred on September 26, 2024: then the CS55 Plus crossover suddenly braked in the middle lane of the Moscow Ring Road and was overtaken by a Gazelle truck at a speed of about 70 km/h. The Changan driver did not seek medical help; he independently took part in registering the accident and sending the car on a tow truck.

The Changan dealership found that the metal frame of the driver’s seat was damaged during the accident, but was not broken into two pieces. Based on the characteristic breaks in the metal, we can conclude that the upper part of the seat was broken off after an accident: according to preliminary data, this was done for the insurance company. The Russian office of Changan continues to investigate the broken chair. Meanwhile, in China, the controversial seats were impacted at a speed of 25 km/h, and no fractures were visible in photographs and videos.
Changan has reduced its line in Russia: three models have been retired
The National Automobile Union (NAU) turned to Rosstandart with a request to conduct an additional safety check of Changan cars sold in Russia. The representative office of the Chinese brand noted that in 2024, 38.4 thousand copies of the CS55 Plus/Uni-S were sold in our country, and there were no cases of deformation of the backs of the front seats.
