The first truly local electric car was presented in Mexico. It’s called the Olinia Uno, seats six people and costs only about $8,600, Carscoops reports.
But there are nuances. The power reserve is only 100 km, and the maximum speed is 50 km/h. Power – a ridiculous 17 hp.
As planned, Olinia Uno should replace motorcycles and three-wheeled taxis (motoTasi). The ideal scenario is last-mile transportation: short trips with frequent stops, picking up and dropping off passengers.
The car has a large 14.7 kWh battery (type – LFP). Charges from a regular 220 V outlet in 4 hours. The manufacturer promises that operation will cost three cents per kilometer – much cheaper than a gasoline taxi.
The car was personally rolled out to the presentation by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. You can even carry a wheelchair user in the car without modifications – thanks to the hinged doors.
