This is a free educational project that will help aspiring collectors in fields ranging from contemporary art and securities to vintage cars approach their hobby from the perspective of a museum professional. The program was prepared as part of the project “Collectors Club of the Moscow Transport Museum”.
“In conjunction with the project “Collectors Club of the Moscow Transport Museum”, they launched a program of free events for adults and children in the “USSR Transport” pavilion at VDNKh. Visitors will take part in lectures and master classes from recognized collectors, as well as practical skills in collecting and presenting their collection,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.
The six-day evening course “Collector’s School” is intended for private collectors, museum professionals and art historians who want to systematically approach the creation and public presentation of a collection of any objects. The course program will include six master classes addressed to practicing and beginning collectors of various profiles. Experienced collectors will act as speakers: numismatists and bonists, art historians, museum specialists and photographers.

On November 23, at the public talk “How to find, preserve and display a rarity,” Igor Reitsman and Nikita Kuznetsov from the Museum of Japanese Cars, together with the tour guide of the Moscow Transport Museum Anton Gurkov, will discuss how to find and recognize a rare car, where to start restoring it and how to turn it into a museum exhibit.
On December 6, the public talk program “VDNKh in detail: How to collect history bit by bit” will conclude. Vasily Volkov, a collector of items related to VDNKh, and Vasily Horst, a researcher of the history of the Exhibition, will discuss how to collect not things, but phenomena, and what makes an object associated with the past and present of VDNKh desirable for a collector.
The Collector School is held as part of the project “Collectors Club of the Moscow Transport Museum”. It aims to develop the museum’s interaction with private collectors, restorers and transport enthusiasts. The project focuses on a person who holds unique knowledge, rare objects and a personal connection to history. The club will host exhibitions, recordings of interviews and podcasts with club members, lectures and discussions, as well as studying the history of the formation of private collections.
