Russian driving schools and the defense society DOSAAF appealed to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate with a request to reduce the time frame for retaking driver’s license exams. The problem was discussed on January 21 at a round table in the Public Chamber. Kommersant reports this.
As Vladimir Korobchak, a member of the OP, noted, now, after three unsuccessful attempts, the candidate can retake the exam no earlier than in 6-9 months. In his opinion, such deadlines provoke a shortage of truck drivers (category C) and bus drivers (category D). Driving schools have also complained of a shortage of examiners, forcing civilian candidates to wait months for their skills to be tested.
The problem is especially acute with the training of military drivers. The director of the DOSAAF vocational training department, Alexander Piskarev, said that due to the long wait for a retake, future truck drivers are called up without a license, and “the Ministry of Defense does not receive drivers.” According to him, out of 27 thousand drivers who annually train for the army, about 1.8 thousand people are “lost” because of this problem.
It was previously reported that the vehicle fleet in the Russian Federation has almost doubled in age in 10 years.
