This was stated by the head of the AMG division and member of the board of directors of Mercedes-Benz, Michael Schiebe. According to him, the four-cylinder engine on AMG models will become history and will be replaced by six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines.
The four-cylinder turbo engine with the factory designation M139 will be gradually replaced by a turbocharged inline-six. In particular, this will happen first with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 crossover, which, after restyling, along with the engine, will also change its index to GLC 53, reports Auto, Motor und Sport.
“We have made sure that this engine in the CLE and E-Class truly excites our fans. For the new models, we have made the engine even more responsive and also expanded the range of individual driving modes – in other words, on the one hand, more comfort, on the other, more emotional appeal,” the publication quotes Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG and Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz.
The top manager also confirmed that the company has developed a new V8 engine that complies with the Euro-7 standard, but did not specify which models it will appear on.
The four-cylinder engine has demonstrated only moderate market success in sales in both the C-Class and GLC, the publication clarifies. The engine will remain on the compact hatchback Mercedes-AMG A45.
Earlier it became known that the updated Geely Coolray will appear in Russia.
