In 2025, the worst traffic jams in the world were recorded in Mexico City, Bengaluru and Dublin. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the manufacturer of navigators TomTom.
“Keeping the roads moving has never been so difficult,” the Dutch company said. Experts analyzed the situation in almost 500 cities around the world, calculating the average level of road congestion, average speed and time spent by motorists in traffic jams per year.
In terms of congestion, Mexico City leads the way, where drivers spend 75.9% more time on the road than they would in free-traffic conditions. Indian Bengaluru and Dublin are slightly inferior to it.
Drivers lose the most hours per year in traffic jams in Lima (Peru) – 195 hours, Dublin – 191 hours and Mexico City – 184 hours. The Colombian city of Barranquilla turned out to be the slowest in terms of average traffic speed.
Moscow and other Russian cities have not been included in the TomTom ranking since 2022. The last time, in 2021, Moscow ranked second in the world in terms of traffic congestion. The Moscow data center reported that congestion in the capital is decreasing: in 2025, the number of days with high traffic jams decreased by 56% compared to 2024.
