Russian car market did not fall out of the list of 15 largest

In the first half of 2025, car sales in Russia continued the fall: only 526.7 thousand new cars were sold, which is 26 percent less than a year earlier. Despite this, the market managed to stay in the world top 15, in which the five countries also demonstrated a decline, the director of Avtostat Sergey Tselikov, director of Avtostat, notes in their Telegram.

The leader in the global rating is still China. From January to June, 15.65 million new cars were sold there, which is 11.4 percent more than in the same period of 2024. 2.1 million (+19 percent in an annual comparison) were sold in June alone.

The gap with the second place is huge: it occupies the United States with 8.14 million cars in six months and an increase in demand by 3.2 percent. However, in June, sales fell by 5.6 percent, and the “Japanese” and “Europeans” had the worst of all.

The third position went to Japan with 2.35 million cars and an increase of 10.2 percent, and then India with 2.19 million (+1.3 percent) is coming. Behind her, again with a noticeable difference, there is the largest car market in Europe-Germany, where 1.4 million cars were sold (-5 percent).

In Brazil, 1.13 million cars (+5 percent) were bought for six months, in the UK-1.04 million (+3.5 percent), in Canada-976 thousand (+5.6 percent), in Italy-855 thousand (-3.6 percent). France closes the top ten leaders with a drop in 7.9 percent and 842 thousand cars.

Next are South Korea, the result of which is 825-thousand (+3.6 percent), Mexico with 709 thousand (-0.2 percent), Spain 610 thousand (+13.9 percent) and Australia 608 thousand (-1 percent). The Russian market showed the most powerful collapse of the 15 largest – by 26 percent.
