The premium brand Hongqi is negotiating with the Stellantis concern to organize the production of Chinese cars at one of the European factories, Reuters reports. According to information received by the publication, the production of Hongqi can be established at one of the underutilized Spanish enterprises, where Fiat and Jeep brands are currently made.
If negotiations are successful, the deal could speed up Hongqi’s expansion into the EU market and also save hundreds of millions of dollars that would be required to build a new plant.
Hongqi has the status of a court manufacturer of cars for the top leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, but in addition produces premium models for a wide range of buyers.
Previously, the premium brand Hongqi (“Honchi”) announced the Russian premiere of the Guoya model, which is the brand’s most expensive product. This is a 5.35-meter car with a four- or five-seater interior, all-wheel drive and a classic 8-speed automatic transmission.
