The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation refused to consider the Tank 300 a competitor "UAZ Patriot"

An attempt to recognize the Chinese frame SUV Tank 300 as an analogue of the Ulyanovsk “Patriot” in a dispute over consumer protection failed. The highest court sided with the manufacturer, rejecting the arguments of the car owner who demanded compensation for the difference in price.

The Supreme Court pointed out that Chinese and Russian SUVs belong to different price categories, and this is crucial when determining compensation. The proceedings arose after a resident of Saratov discovered deficiencies in the UAZ Patriot she purchased and went to court. She demanded that the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant compensate the difference between the cost of the problematic Patriot and the price of a “similar car from another manufacturer.” The plaintiff considered that the Chinese Tank 300 was suitable for this role.

The court of first instance granted the claim partially. The appointed examination recognized the SUVs as analogues – both have a frame structure, gasoline engines and rigidly connected all-wheel drive. The cost of the reference Tank 300 Adventure was estimated at 4.1 million rubles. The plaintiff could receive 1.7 million rubles for her “Patriot” plus almost 2.4 million rubles in difference.

However, UAZ did not agree with this comparison and went all the way to the Supreme Court. As a result, the highest authority refused to consider the Chinese “frame” as an analogue of the Ulyanovsk SUV. The dispute came to an end at the end of May 2026.
