Sollers is studying the potential of Africa markets to launch the production of models of the Ulyanovsk automobile plant there. This was written by TASS with reference to the general director of Sollers Nikolai Sobolev. Talking about the local assembly of UAZs has been going on for several years, but the Ulyanovsk people have not yet reported any progress in this matter.
According to Sobolev, Sollers, who owns UAZ, is actively studying the potentials of African markets, but to call specific locations where the production of SUVs may be established, while “prematurely”.
He added that the automaker is considering production in other countries. First of all, this applies to the regions “which corresponds to the DNA of the UAZ brand.” What kind of countries are in mind, Sobolev did not specify, but noted that work in this direction is being carried out.
The Director General of UAZ surprised the debut of the updated “pickup”
In recent years, at least three African countries – Gan, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic have expressed a desire to collect UAZs in their own way. Back in 2023, a contract was signed with one of the Ethiopian firms, and in February 2025 the country’s ambassador confirmed that negotiations between the parties were ongoing and there is hope for a “full production cycle”.
Meanwhile, UAZs have already “registered” in North America: SUVs began to collect in Cuba. “Patriots” and “pickups”, prepared for local climatic conditions, are released by a large -sized method from Russian machine tools. Price – from 29 thousand dollars in equivalent.
