Dacia chief designer reveals details about the all-new Sandero

At the Brussels Motor Show, David Durand denied the separation of the Sandero and Sandero Stepway model lines. The specialist confirmed: technically such a step is possible, but this would require doubling the investment, that is, the buyer would pay for the larger difference. At the moment, Sandero and its cross-version are largely unified, as this allows them to reduce costs.

The chief designer of Dacia said that the Romanian brand has no plans to become a crossover brand, that is, the “fourth” Sandero will not turn into an SUV in the image of the Citroen C3 Aircross. “The hatchback is well known to buyers; it is what they need: a spacious but at the same time compact car, easy to drive, not too heavy and economical. Therefore, a hatchback is a good solution.”

Another argument in favor of a squat silhouette is the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. “Aerodynamics are important to continue to meet the requirements [экостандартов]”, David Durant made it clear. The specialist also hinted that the all-electric Dacia Sandero will not differ significantly in appearance. Durant’s interesting observation: buyers of the Stepway version do not consider the regular Sandero at all.

According to preliminary data, the fourth generation of Dacia Sandero will enter the market in 2027. Currently, hatchbacks of the 2020 model are sold in Europe, which have recently undergone a local upgrade. Based on the results of 2024, the Romanian “state car” became the absolute bestseller of the continent, ahead of the Volkswagen Golf.
