Lotus can replace the Toyota Camry V6 engine with a powerful V8

The general director of Feng Zinfen told investors: the plans include the top version of the Emira sports car with eight cylinders. The head of Lotus said that the designers are thinking about “feasibility of V8”. The actual 3.5-liter 2GR-Fe motor, familiar by Toyota Camry, will have to be removed due to the inconsistency of the Euro-7 environmental class. The alternative can be the “Burbovosmiere” AMG.

Lotus Emira with a six -cylinder engine debuted in 2021. The British brand continued to use a 3.5-liter V6 with an EDELBROCK drive supercharger. The motor gives 406 horsepower and is combined with a 6-speed “mechanics” or an Aisin 6-speed automatic machine. Now Lotus is interested in a more powerful unit, since the basic four -cylinder versions are not in demand in the key market in the United States.

Secret projects Lotus Gray Cardinal: Why is the Automobile World owed to the Lotus Electric Lotus Eletre S brand – only the name from the lotus?

The new general director of the Lotus European branch Matt Windle did not directly confirm the transition to the V8, but made it clear that the company is considering other power options. According to Windle, the Emira sports car “A product that is not fully used.” According to Autocar, the most likely is the transition to the V8 from the Mercedes-AMG, because Lotus made it clear that they were determined to continue working with the current engine supplier.

If the Lotus Emira still gets the V8, then this will be the first eight-cylinder brand sports car since 2004, when the Esprit V8 was resigned. The main catch is how compact power structure Lotus Emira is suitable for a larger engine. It is interesting that the electrical sports of the British brand is still paused, because the interest of customers is minimal.
