After Chery leaves the country, Russians who bought cars from this brand will face delays in the supply of spare parts, a drop in the residual value of the cars and the inability to sell them on the secondary market. Market experts told Motor magazine about this. Dealers assure that so far there are no problems with spare parts and maintenance, but no one can guarantee what will happen in three years.
Chery’s global departure from Russia is a strategic step; the company needs to go to the international exchange for investments, this is expected and predictable, Sergei Tselikov, general director of the analytical agency Autostat, explained to Motor magazine.
“Everyone understands that Chery and Tenet are actually the same thing. Additional super-big problems are not expected, but those that existed will remain. Filters, oils and pads will be available. Everything that concerns large items – glass, complex electronics – will take time; these positions will not be in the central warehouse. You can order everything now, and choose an analogue too. But delivery will take 2-3 months, and then everything will be slower,” Tselikov predicted in a conversation with Motor regarding the supply of spare parts to the Chery fleet sold in Russia.
In general, the residual value of Chinese car brands is falling faster than that of Japanese or European mass brands, the expert points out. Chinese cars are losing price at approximately the same rate as premium brands, which are falling in price much faster than mass-produced ones, the head of Autostat clarified.
Motor magazine requested official comments on the situation with support for Chery cars after the brand left Russia at the Chery Automobiles Rus representative office. At the time of publication of the material, the editors had not received a response. The press service of the AGR plant, which under contract assembles Tenet cars (a camouflage brand of the Chery concern), said that it has no right to comment on behalf of other auto companies.

According to Sergei Tselikov, a sharp reduction in Chery import volumes was noted back in 2025, and only by the beginning of 2026 did imports practically disappear: in January and February, only 41 cars under this brand were imported into our country.
“In the first two months of 2026, only 41 new Chery cars were imported into Russia. This is 100 times (-99%) less than in January-February last year (4.2 thousand units). Almost all cars this year were imported by individuals,” Tselikov wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to Anton Shaparin, vice-president of the National Automobile Union (NAU), in the case of Chery and cars of other Chinese brands, the reduction in the residual value of cars will depend on how long it takes to produce spare parts for these cars.
“We don’t know how many years the Chinese will provide support with spare parts. If suddenly after 5 years, for example, China stops producing spare parts for these cars, their value will decrease. If with the German auto industry you can be sure that the production period for spare parts for manufactured cars will continue for many years, then with the Chinese it’s a big question,” says Shaparin in an interview with Motor magazine.
Shaparin does not exclude that spare parts for Russian Chery will be produced for a limited time, and the price of Chinese cars will fall faster than that of cars of other brands.
Chery
“China is undergoing a rapid transformation of the auto industry, and we can say that gasoline cars are a thing of the past for the Chinese auto industry. And Chinese manufacturers will be more interested in filling the domestic market than the export market,” Shaparin emphasized.
Representatives of large dealer holdings assure that for now, curtailing the activities of the Chery brand in Russia will not add problems. However, we are not talking about guarantees for a period of 3-5 years.
“As for models that will not be localized, customers do not bear the risk of servicing. The importer provides support for the cars sold and maintains the necessary stocks of original spare parts in its warehouse in Russia,” notes Yuri Blinov, marketing director of the Avilon automobile group, in an interview with Motor magazine.
According to him, the Chery brand, before the launch of localized cars under the Tenet brand, was already confidently among the best-selling Chinese cars and over the years of work in Russia managed to win the trust of buyers in all segments, so their price positioning will remain stable in the secondary market.
“The element base of Tenet is identical to Chery, which guarantees affordable service without queues and long waits for parts. Loyalty to the Chery brand is high,” hopes Blinov.
However, experts interviewed by Motor magazine agree that selling Chery cars 5-6 years after the brand leaves the Russian Federation will not be as easy as it is now. As long as the company maintains marketing investments into the market, it is heard by potential clients. Accordingly, for Chery buyers in 2030 it will be something vaguely familiar, like, for example, the once popular Lifan brand in Russia.
