Tatra built a 16-wheel drive truck for Australia

The car was created by the Czech automaker together with the Australian company Offroad Trucks. With 16 driving wheels, 10 of them are steerable. An unusual four-wheel drive truck was needed to install a high-rise work platform.

The serial tractor Tatra 158 Phoenix is used as a basis. The main feature of the 16-wheeler is its five steerable axles. Its three front axles and two rear axles rotate. They work in antiphase, the front and rear turn in different directions. Thanks to this feature, the 80-ton vehicle is able to turn around in confined spaces.

The car has a pneumatic suspension, completely independent. This means that Tatra is able to feel more or less comfortable on rough terrain, adapting to the terrain with each wheel individually.

The car is powered by a 12.9-liter diesel engine, which produces a maximum power of 530 hp. The engine is paired with a 12-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The centipede machine was built to order for the Australian company Quantum Comms. It will become the base for the installation of a high-rise working platform.

Previously, KamAZ certified a tractor for a 100-ton road train in Russia.
