The head of AvtoVAZ spoke about his own Lada turbo engine

At the final press conference for 2024, Maxim Sokolov told reporters that the auto giant continues to develop a unit of this type. The head of AvtoVAZ noted that there are plans to develop the Lada turbo engine and possible partnership projects, but refrained from giving details. Until 2013, the 1.4-liter VAZ-11194 engine was assembled in Tolyatti: it is assumed that the turbo engine will be made on its basis.

Ten months ago, the director of product programs and projects of the company, Oleg Grunenkov, made it clear that so far AvtoVAZ does not see a massive demand from buyers for turbo engines. The specialist noted that the future of the supercharged Lada project will depend entirely on the market situation.

New Lada Iskra sedan: specifications and prices revealed The Ministry of Industry and Trade is interested in unifying Lada, Haval and Moskvich engines What will the new Lada minivan be like: details

It’s hardly worth waiting for turbo engines on current Lada models, but promising models on the Vesta platform – a crossover and a minivan – will turn out to be larger and heavier, so a potentially more high-torque and economical unit will come in handy. However, for now there are more specifics about the updated sixteen-valve “aspirated” engines: after the upgrade, the 1.6 engine will develop 122 horsepower, and the 1.8 engine will be pumped up to 135 horsepower.

AvtoVAZ intends to circumvent the limitations of the domestic 5-speed manual transmission by purchasing a Chinese 6-speed WLY gearbox. The first model with the new transmission will debut on January 27: on the Lada Vesta NG, a six-speed manual will be coupled with the 1.8 Evo engine. In the future, the 6-speed manual transmission will be able to work in conjunction with the “younger” 1.6.
