Porsche may release a new fuel-powered Macan

The electric crossover of the same name had a good start last year, but its prospects remain vague due to changes in customer preferences. According to Autocar, the Germans are ready to reconsider their development strategy and want to extend the life of models with internal combustion engines as much as possible.

Last year ended with a 3% decline in global sales for Porsche, with volumes falling the most in China, by almost a third. The company is entering one of the most difficult periods in its history, and strategies that seemed winning just a few years ago will likely have to be reconsidered. First of all, this concerns electrification. It has gotten to the point where Porsche is evaluating the prospects of installing hybrid systems and conventional internal combustion engines on models originally conceived as electric.

The updated Porsche 911 Carrera S was presented Porsche Carrera GT took to the Nürburgring 20 years later and showed an amazing result Porsche will not give up developing new cars with internal combustion engines

The result of this research could be a fuel-fueled second-generation Macan. Today’s crossover exists only as an electric car and is equipped with one or two electric motors. This is the first Porsche model on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, developed jointly with Audi, but this will not fit the petrol Macan. The Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) “trolley” is reserved for it, which underlies the “third” Audi Q5 and the entire A5 family. It is designed for medium and large models and supports advanced hybrid installations such as MHEV.

The previous Macan sold about half a million copies in 10 years, but with the entry into force of new cybersecurity requirements, it had to leave one of the main markets – European. This is also why Porsche discontinued the 718 Boxster/Cayman, and their electric successors are delayed due to problems with battery supplier Northvolt. Also, in light of recent events, the fate of the flagship electric crossover K1 is unknown. It may also have to be converted to gasoline.
