Winter tires in Russia are temporarily prohibited: violators face a fine

The ban on the operation of studded winter tires entered into force on June 1, 2025 and will be valid until September 1, 2025. Motorists, who in these three months of the ban will be caught on Shipovka, face a warning or a cash fine of 500 rubles. At the same time, the operation of non -navigated winter rubber (“Velcro”) is allowed.

The restriction on the use of winter studded rubber in the summer and summer in the winter is enshrined in the updated version of the Government Decree No. 1090, the amendments to which were made in 2023. Summer tires should be used from June 1 to September 1, and winter – from December 1 to March 1. At the same time, the regions have the right to both increase the terms of these prohibitions and reduce them.

The first year of drivers was not fined for this violation, but in 2024 the punishment for using tires is not provided for the season: warning or fine. In addition to a warning or fine of 500 rubles, drivers using tires not in season may encounter another problem – they will not be able to pass the inspection.

In addition to the proper operation of tires, the list of malfunctions prohibiting the use of the car prescribes the requirements for the brake system, steering, lighting devices and the engine. At the same time, the absence of a first -aid kit, fire extinguisher and a sign of emergency stop is not a fine for a fine.
